Overview
In 178 AH al-Walid ibn Tarif al-Shari rose in al-Jazira, and his affair grew great; Harun al-Rashid sent against him Yazid ibn Mazyad al-Shaybani. 2
The confrontation
It was said to al-Rashid that Yazid was reluctant against al-Walid because of the kinship between them. Yazid told his companions that they were the Kharijites and had a charge, so they should hold firm, and when their charge had spent itself they should charge against them, for when they are defeated they do not return. 2
Al-Walid was killed and his revolt ended. His sister al-Farida lamented him in poems, among them her famous ode. 3
