مقتل صدقة المزيدي في حرب السلطان محمد (501هـ)

March 1108 CE · Rajab 501 AH

Hilla

When Sadaqa ibn Mansur sheltered Sarkhab ibn Kaykhusraw and refused to yield him, Sultan Muhammad ibn Malikshah marched from Baghdad at the end of Rajab 501 AH; Ubada and Khafaja deserted Sadaqa and the Kurds took bribes, so he charged the Turks crying 'I am the king of the Arabs, I am Sadaqa' — an arrow transfixed him and a Turkish ghulam named Barghash pulled him down and killed him, his head borne to Baghdad; three thousand or more of his men were killed and his son Dubays captured.

Overview

Ibn Khaldun relates that Sadaqa ibn Mansur al-Mazyadi gave protection to Sarkhab ibn Kaykhusraw and refused to hand him over. The sultan Muhammad ibn Malik-Shah set out from Baghdad at the end of Rajab 501 AH, and Sadaqa met him and was killed. 1

The battle

Ibn Khaldun says that Ubada and Khafaja abandoned Sadaqa, and the Kurds preferred the promises of the sultan. Sadaqa charged the Turks, calling out that he was the king of the Arabs. An arrow struck him, and a Turkish slave called Barghash pulled him down and killed him. 1

His head was taken to the sultan, who sent it to Baghdad. Three thousand or more of his companions were killed, and his son Dubays was taken captive. The place recorded in the data is al-Hilla. 1
