Summary
The breach over the lafz question between Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Dhuhli and al-Bukhari deepened: al-Dhuhli proclaimed it in his circle and barred people from taking from al-Bukhari until he left Nishapur, and most people shunned Muslim, who did not change 1. Muslim attended al-Dhuhli's assembly, where he announced that anyone who said "my utterance of the Qur'an is created" should not attend their circle; Muslim gathered his cloak and turban, rose over the heads of the people and walked out — and from that grew the estrangement between him and al-Dhuhli 2 1. Muslim had championed al-Bukhari until it soured his relations with al-Dhuhli on his account 2.
