Summary
Rain failed at Samarkand in the year 464, and though the people prayed for rain repeatedly they were not watered; a righteous man came to the qadi of Samarkand and proposed that the qadi and the people go out to the grave of Imam Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari and pray for rain there. The qadi went out with the people, who wept at the grave and sought intercession through its occupant; God sent down a great, abundant rain, and the people stayed at Khartank seven days unable to reach Samarkand for the abundance of water 1.
