Overview
After three years in Cairo — consulted by al-Nasir on Syrian affairs and beginning his treatise al-Siyasa al-shar'iyya — a new Mongol threat, quickly dispelled, sent Ibn Taymiyya back to Damascus, which he entered via Jerusalem on 1 Dhu al-Qa'da 712/28 February 1313, under the new governor Tankiz (d. 740/1340). There he spent his last fifteen years as a professor regarded by his supporters as an independent mujtahid, with Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya (d. 751/1350) his chief pupil, spreading his ideas and sharing some of his persecution 1.
