Overview
Mahmud ibn Muhammad al-Himyari seized Mirbat, Dhofar and other places in Hadramawt. At first he was the owner of a ship that he hired to merchants, then he became the vizier of the lord of Mirbat. 2
When the lord of Mirbat died, he ruled the city after him. The people obeyed him out of love for his generosity and his conduct, according to Ibn al-Athir. 2
Founding of al-Ahmadiyya
In 619 AH he ruined Mirbat and Dhofar, and founded a new city on the coast near Mirbat, with a fresh spring he led into the city. He built a wall and a moat around it, fortified it, and named it al-Ahmadiyya. He loved poetry and gave generous rewards for it. 2
An additional source is needed: the data conflicts, with the date 609 in the date field and 619 in the text of the account.
