Overview
al-Maqqari, in "Nafh al-Tib", relates that Abd al-Rahman ibn Abd Allah al-Ghafiqi, amir of al-Andalus, raided the land of the Franks. His army was struck in Ramadan 114 AH at a place known as Balat al-Shuhada, and the raid became known by it. 1
A modern reading
The Salabi book on the Umayyad state says that the commander tried to revive the project of Musa ibn Nusayr about twenty years after it had been lost. The book holds that Musa had been planning to cross the Pyrenees, and that al-Walid's summons of him ended the project. 2
The Gregorian date (around October 732 CE) is derived by conversion.
