Overview
Ibn al-Athir reports that in 296 AH Ziyadat Allah ibn Abd Allah, the last of the Banu al-Aghlab princes, left Ifriqiya for Egypt and then Syria, fleeing the state of the Fatimid al-Mahdi. 1
Exile
He halted at al-Raqqa seeking permission to enter Baghdad, but it was not granted. It was said that one of his scholars poisoned him, and the hair of his beard fell out. He then returned to Egypt and set out for Jerusalem, and he died at Ramla and was buried there. 1
The end of the dynasty
No one of the Banu al-Aghlab remained in the Maghrib. Their rule had lasted a hundred and twelve years. The narrator says they used to say: "We shall go out to Egypt and Syria and tie our horses to the olive trees of Palestine." It was Ziyadat Allah who went out to Palestine, but not in the way they had imagined. 1
The Gregorian conversion is derived. An additional source is needed to confirm the date.
