Al-falah (success)

الفلاح

Falah is success. Sha'rawi holds that the word comes from ploughing the earth for sowing, and that God used it for the Hereafter so that the unseen is brought near through the seen. He reads 'upon guidance' as elevation rather than subjection, and reads 'in error' as a surrounding enclosure 1 2 3. This is Sha'rawi's reading and is attributed to him.

Summary

Falah is success. Sha'rawi holds that the word "those who prosper" in Al-Baqara 5 comes from ploughing the earth for sowing, and that God used it for the Hereafter to bring the unseen near through the seen. 1 2

Upon guidance

Sha'rawi holds that "upon" (ala) indicates elevation: the one guided is raised by guidance and not humbled, and the method lifts its follower and protects him from harm. 1 3

In error

Sha'rawi holds that "in" (fi) indicates an enclosing container: error surrounds its holder and rules him, and an enclosing fault leaves no outlet. 2
