Summary
Mezid Bey Camii was founded in 1441 by Mezit Bey, a general of Murat II killed in action that same year in Wallachia fighting John Hunyadi; the mosque is abandoned and in poor repair but structurally intact 1.
Form
A porchless cross-axial eyvan mosque with a north-west minaret; the central hall is covered by an eight-sided vault on tiers of saw-toothed corbels, appearing outside as a hemispherical dome on an octagonal drum, while the side- and prayer-eyvan domes rest on pendentives 1.
For young visitors
A general built it in 1441 and died in battle the same year — his mosque stands empty but its dome still holds.
