Summary
Beylerbeyi Cami was founded in 1428 by Yusuf Pasha, beylerbeyi — governor-general — of Rumeli, the European part of the early Ottoman Empire, under Murat II 1.
Form
An axial-eyvan mosque with a five-bayed porch and a north-west minaret; the domed central hall is flanked by two square tabhane rooms for dervishes and opens south into a very ornate prayer eyvan — a three-sided apse under a fluted semidome, its rectangular front covered by an octagonal vault with corner triangles; beside it stands a ruined hamam of the külliye 2.
For young visitors
Rumeli's governor built it in 1428 — and its mihrab end wears a handsome three-sided apse.
