Summary

IslamHouse (Dar al-Islam) is a charitable da'wa website of the Da'wa and Community Awareness Society in al-Rabwah, Riyadh. It describes itself as "a free reference for introducing Islam in the world's languages" and aims at all the world's living languages. 1

Its aims, as it states them

Among its stated aims are conveying Islam to all people in their languages; easing da'wa and supporting those engaged in it; enriching the internet with free, trustworthy material; correcting misconceptions about Islam; uniting da'wa bodies' efforts in translation and writing; and offering a free scholarly reference that introduces Islam to non-Muslims and teaches Muslims their religion. 1 It addresses those who wish to know Islam from trustworthy sources, and the bodies and individuals who work to introduce it. 1

The encyclopedias

Three encyclopedias belong to the site: one of translations of the meanings of the Qur'an in many languages (QuranEnc), one of translations of more than two thousand hadith (HadeethEnc), and one of more than two thousand Islamic terms (TerminologyEnc). 1

Beginnings

The earliest capture of islamhouse.com in the Internet Archive is dated 6 December 2000: a framed page titled "Rabwah", after the district. 2

Awards it reports

The site says it won first place in a prize in 2007 and third in the same prize in 2011, first place in a digital-excellence award of Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and a "special mention" in 2007 in an Arab-wide e-culture category; these are awards as the site lists them. 1

Today

The site is active at islamhouse.com and, by its own page, takes volunteers and donations from within Saudi Arabia. 1
