Sayhad

صَيْهَد

The great waste of Yemen also called al-Gha'it — al-Hamdani traces it branching off the Dahna by the Yamama and 'Alj side, pressed by the peninsula's highlands, widening between Najran, Bayhan and Hadramawt to four or five stages, waterless save at its few road-wells like al-'Abr 1.

Overview

Sayhad is the desert of Yemen called al-Ghaʾit. According to al-Hamdani, it branches from al-Dahna on the side of al-Yamama and al-'Ulj, and extends between Najran, Bayhan and Hadramawt for four or five stages. Most of it lies beyond Najran to the north. It is a desert with no water except at the watering-places, like al-'Abr. 2
