Overview
The River of al-Bazzaq is an ancient river in al-Sawad. Al-Baladhuri relates that it was called in Nabataean "Lubsaq", meaning the one that cuts water off from what lies beside it and draws it to itself. It is a river to which the surplus waters of the reed-beds of al-Sayb gather, along with water from the Euphrates, and so people called it "al-Bazzaq". 1
