Overview

al-Mahfuza: a city built by al-Hakam ibn Awana al-Kalbi beyond the lake, on the side facing India. He made it a refuge for the Muslims, and also for Mu'adh and Misr. 1

al-Hakam consulted the elders of Kalb about naming it. When a man said, "Name it Tadmur", he rejected this and refused, and said that he would name it al-Mahfuza. 1
