Overview
al-Mas'udi's account
al-Mas'udi reports that he rose at al-Juzjan in Khurasan at the end of the year 125 AH, denouncing injustice. Nasr ibn Sayyar sent him Salm ibn Ahwaz al-Mazini, and he was killed by an arrow in his temple and crucified at al-Juzjan 3.
Then Abu Muslim took down his body and prayed over it. The people of Khurasan showed mourning for him for seven days, and no child was born but was named Yahya or Zayd. He often quoted the verses of al-Khansa' 3.
