Life in time
In brief
Yahya b. Sa'id b. Farrukh, master of the memorisers, Abu Sa'id al-Tamimi, client of Banu Nasr, the cotton-seller; born in 120 AH, he heard Hisham b. Urwa, Ata' b. al-Sa'ib, Husayn the tutor, Khuthaym b. Irak, Humayd al-Tawil, Sulayman al-Taymi, Yahya b. Sa'id al-Ansari, al-A'mash, and their layer — a very copious hearing. 1
His standing
Ibn Mahdi, Affan, Musaddad, Ahmad, Ishaq, Hushaym, and others narrated from him, as did Ahmad, his son, Ibrahim al-Harbi, al-Bukhari, Muslim, and Abu Dawud — his hadith is in all six collections, and he was the last of his celebrated companions to survive; Ahmad declared him reliable and Abu Hatim called him "reliable, a proof". 2
