Muhammad Siddiq Hasan Khan al-Qannawji

Muhammad Siddiq Khan ibn Hasan ibn Ali, Abu al-Tayyib, of the Husayni family, al-Bukhari, al-Qannawji; a scholar and prince who worked in many fields and wrote some sixty works in Arabic, Persian and Hindi. ¹

He studied at Delhi and moved to Bhopal to earn a living, grew wealthy, married the ruler of Bhopal and held the title of Nawwab. ¹

His works include Husn al-Uswa, Fath al-Bayan fi maqasid al-Qur'an, Nayl al-Maram fi tafsir ayat al-ahkam, al-Rawda al-nadiyya, Husul al-ma'mul min 'ilm al-usul and 'Awn al-Bari. ^{1 2}

The title page of an old printing of Nayl al-Awtar names him "Abu al-Tayyib Siddiq b. Hasan b. 'Ali al-Husayni al-Qannawji al-Bukhari" and carries in its margin his 'Awn al-Bari li-Hall Adillat al-Bukhari, a commentary on Ahmad al-Sharji al-Zabidi's al-Tajrid al-Sarih. ³ In the closing lines of its Book of Jihad he writes that he completed the first half of the commentary on 1 Sha'ban 1293 AH in Bhopal. ⁴
