Summary
Sami Khedira is a German former professional footballer who played as a central midfielder and is now an assistant coach at Real Madrid. 1 Born in Stuttgart in 1987 to a Tunisian father and a German mother, he won the Bundesliga with VfB Stuttgart, the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid and five Serie A titles with Juventus, and was part of the Germany squad that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup. 12 The sources read for this entry make no statement of his own religion, so his data record leaves his faith as unknown. 123
Early life
Khedira was born on 4 April 1987 in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, to a Tunisian father and a German mother. 1 His younger brother Rani is also a footballer and has represented Germany's under-19 team before switching to Tunisia. 1 Before joining VfB Stuttgart's youth team in 1995, he played at TV Oeffingen. 1
Stuttgart and Real Madrid
Called into Stuttgart's Bundesliga squad in the first months of the 2006–07 season, Khedira made his debut on 1 October 2006 against Hertha BSC and scored the winner on the final day of the season as Stuttgart became champions for the first time in 15 years. 1 On 30 July 2010 he moved to Real Madrid, where he won the Copa del Rey in his first season and was in the starting eleven for the 2014 Champions League final, which Real Madrid won 4–1 against Atlético Madrid. 1 In five seasons in Spain he won seven domestic and international trophies. 1
Juventus, Hertha and retirement
On 9 June 2015 Juventus announced Khedira's signing on a free transfer; he won the Serie A title and Coppa Italia in each of his first three seasons, followed by two more league titles and a Supercoppa Italiana. 1 On 22 October 2017 he scored his first career hat-trick, in a 6–2 win at Udinese. 1 In February 2019 he was treated for an irregular heartbeat and returned to action in April. 1 He returned to the Bundesliga with Hertha BSC on 1 February 2021 and announced his retirement at the end of that season. 1 He is currently the assistant coach of Real Madrid. 1
Germany
Khedira captained Germany's under-21 side to the 2009 European Under-21 Championship title and made his senior debut on 5 September 2009 against South Africa. 1 He earned 77 caps and played at three World Cups and two European Championships, scored Germany's fifth goal in the 7–1 semi-final defeat of Brazil in 2014, and was injured in the warm-up before the final against Argentina, which Germany won 1–0. 1
Faith in the sources
Neither the English nor the Arabic article states Khedira's religion: their personal-life passages record only that he was born to a Tunisian father and a German mother. 12 Wikidata carries no religion value for him at all. 3 Because a parent's origin is family background rather than the man's own attestation, and no source read names a religion or a school for him personally, his record states his faith as unknown. 13
