Summary

Abu Bashir Salih ibn Bashir al-Qari', known as al-Marri, of Basra — an ascetic preacher, client of a woman of Banu Murra ibn al-Harith ibn 'Abd al-Qays. He entered before al-Mahdi at al-Rusafa, and when he stood before him he said: O Commander of the Faithful... 'Affan ibn Muslim said: we used to attend Salih al-Marri's assembly as he preached, and it was as if he strained himself. Ibn Ma'in and al-Daraqutni weakened him, and al-Bukhari said: munkar al-hadith. 1
