Summary
Said bin Misfer bin Mufrih al-Qahtani is a Saudi Islamic preacher, born in 1364 AH (1944) in the city of Abha in Saudi Arabia. 1
He earned a doctorate in aqida from Umm al-Qura University in Makkah, and his lessons spread through an audio library of more than five hundred cassettes; he has written books and pamphlets and lectured in several Muslim countries. 1
Upbringing and education
Said bin Misfer grew up in a modest family in Abha; his father brought stones down from the mountains around the city and sold them to residents for building, and Said took over this work from his father, delivering the stones to their selling places, while his mother ran the household and raised him. 1
He joined the Saudi School in Abha in 1371 AH and excelled in his studies, then joined the Primary Teachers' Training Institute when it opened in 1377 AH and graduated in its first cohort; he continued evening study, gained the intermediate competency in 1382 AH, and studied under Abdullah bin Ata al-Afghani. 1
He then enrolled by correspondence in the southern branch of Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University, and later moved to Makkah to pursue postgraduate study at Umm al-Qura University, staying there for the sake of dawah. 1
Qualifications
He gained a bachelor's in sharia from the southern branch of Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in 1401 AH, a master's in aqida from Umm al-Qura University in 1415 AH, and a doctorate in aqida from the same university in 1418 AH. 1
Works
His first cassette was titled "Ashrat al-Sa'a" (The Signs of the Hour), surveying the major and minor signs of the Hour, and it spread widely; the cassette "'Indama Yantahir al-'Afaf" (When Chastity Kills Itself) is regarded as a turning point in his career, and his audio library came to hold more than five hundred cassettes. 1
His first book was titled "Salat al-Jama'a" (Congregational Prayer); he has written more than seven books and about forty pamphlets. 1
The IslamWeb audio library carries a wide index of his lessons and lectures in series such as "Asbab al-Hidaya" (The Causes of Guidance), "Min Asbab 'Adhab al-Qabr" (From the Causes of the Punishment of the Grave) and "Wasa'il al-Thabat 'ala Din Allah" (Means of Steadfastness in God's Religion). 2
Engagements
He answered invitations from several Muslim countries and visited most of them — among them Egypt, Kuwait, the Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar — and his lectures drew large audiences; attendance at one of his lectures at a spring camp in Kuwait was estimated at more than twenty thousand men and more than five thousand women. 1
In Bangladesh, at the invitation of the Islamic Charity Society, he took part in the annual Quran Interpretation Conference, and in 1414 AH he took part in the Scientific Miracles conference in Indonesia. 1
Arrest and release
His article reports that he was arrested on 1 November 2018 in a campaign of arrests that touched a number of scholars, preachers and thinkers, and that the "Detainees of Conscience" account reported his release two months later, without clarification or charge, criticising the selective manner of the releases; the museum presents this as his article and its press sources report it, with no verdict of its own. 1
