    Summary

Mohamed El Hadi Al-Mazouri, known by his stage name Muslim, is a Moroccan rapper born on 10 December 1981 in Tangier. He began singing as an amateur in 1998 and founded the group Zanka Flow the same year; he released his first solo album, "Al-Tamarrud" (Rebellion), in 2010, won the award for best rapper in Morocco in 2014, and was decorated with the Order of the National Reward, knight grade, in 2015. 1

    Early life and beginnings

Muslim was born in Tangier. His mother tongue is Amazigh (Berber), and he speaks Arabic and Amazigh. In his songs, as the article describes it, he expresses his feelings and his harsh experience of life. He began his singing career as an amateur in 1998, and founded the group Zanka Flow ("Flow of the Alley") the same year together with his colleague al-Arabi; with his group he performed at many public concerts and local festivals that drew large, enthusiastic youth audiences. 1

    Career and works

Among his early songs that audiences took up and repeated are "Al-Ghurba" (Exile), "Ana Muslim" (I Am Muslim), "Qalb Majruh" (A Wounded Heart) and "Tayer Hurr" (A Free Bird). With Zanka Flow he released group albums including "Tanjawa Daba" (2001), "Al-Jabha" (2003) and "Al-Dam wal-Dumu'" (Blood and Tears, 2006), and he shared the album "Jib al-'Izz wala Ikhaz" (2006) with the group al-Qashla. 1

In 2010 he released his first solo album, "Al-Tamarrud" (Rebellion), which met with success in artistic circles, especially in Maghreb rap. His solo work continued; among his songs are "Al-Qatra" (2005), "Ana Criminal" (2006), "Mur al-Sur" (2008), "Hubb al-Watan" (Love of Homeland, 2010), "Law Kan al-Waqi' Lawha" (2011), "Al-Risala" (The Message, 2014), "Al-Marhum" (The Late One, 2014), "Dumu' al-Hawma" (Tears of the Neighbourhood, 2016), "Al-Ghul" (2016), "Al-Zanqa" (The Alley, 2017), "Mama" (2018), "Caballero" (2019), "My Lady" (2020), and "Sirrak" and "Job" (2022). 1

Muslim won the Morocco Music Awards prize in the rap category in 2014 for the song "Al-Marhum", making him Morocco's best rapper of that year, and he sat on the jury of the talent show BIG UP on Medi 1 TV in 2014, its first edition. In 2015 he was decorated, on the occasion of the fifty-second birthday of King Mohammed VI of Morocco at the Marchane Palace in Tangier, with the Order of the National Reward of the grade of Knight. 1

    Positions and criticism

This section sets out positions as reported in the sources. It is not a verdict by the museum.

In 2018, during a Moroccan boycott of products over their high prices (a brand of mineral water, a brand of milk and a fuel distribution company), and after his fans demanded that he state a clear position on the boycott, Muslim declared that he was "bigger than boycotting milk and water" and that he was "a man for difficult missions". This drew wide criticism from his followers, who considered it a contradiction of the content of his songs and an arrogance toward his fans and critics. 1

    Personal life

Muslim has two children, Hidaya and Moataz, from his first wife, and the article records his marriage to Amal Saqr from 2019. The museum does not publish family details beyond what is needed to understand his work. 1

    Reach

Muslim's work runs from 1998 to the present, one of the longest continuous careers in Moroccan rap, and his songs have reached a wide youth audience at concerts and festivals and on digital platforms. The article also records charitable activity by donation. Platform figures change constantly, so the museum records them only with a date. 1
