Before al-Mu'tamid

It is related that the qadis and witnesses of the City of Peace were brought before al-Mu'tamid 'ala Allah to testify against him concerning a debt he had incurred under duress while spending on the Zanj leader. Isma'il ibn Bulbul read them the document and said: the Commander of the Faithful orders you to testify against him as this document states. The men testified until the document reached al-Judh'u'i, who took it in his hand and stepped forward to the throne. 1
