Muhammad ibn Musafir al-Tarumi

محمد بن مسافر الطرمي

Muhammad ibn Musafir, a Daylamite magnate and master of al-Tarum castle; he married into the Kurdish chiefs who bore him his son Rustam, and among his many sons were Salar, Sa'luk, Wahsudan and al-Marzuban — from his house rose the Musafirid state in Azerbaijan.

Overview

Muhammad ibn Musafir al-Tarmi, one of the great Daylamites, lord of the fortress of al-Tarm. He married into some of the Kurdish chiefs, and his son Rustam was born of this. He had many children, among them Sallar, Sa'luk and al-Marzuban. From his house the state of the Banu Musafir arose in Azerbaijan. 1

The Rus seize the city of Barda'a

In 332 a Rus fleet came up the Kur river to Barda'a, routed the garrison, proclaimed security, then trapped the townsmen who stayed past the three-day deadline — some fifteen thousand captives, the survivors penned in the mosque and slaughtered when a twenty-dirham ransom failed. Fruit-gluttony brought them plague, and Marzuban's ambush destroyed their prince and penned the rest in the citadel.
