    Summary

Mahmoud al-Shahat Muhammad Anwar, known as Shaykh Mahmoud al-Shahat (born 10 September 1984), is an Egyptian Qur'an reciter of the younger generation and the son of the reciter al-Shahat Muhammad Anwar. 1 2

    Early life

He was born at Kafr al-Wazir in the Mit Ghamr district of Dakahlia and memorised the Qur'an under his father, finishing at twelve; his brother Anwar al-Shahat Anwar is also a reciter. 1 2

    Career

He took first place at an international Qur'an competition held in Egypt and has recited on a Qur'an radio station in London. In an interview the article cites from Sada El Balad (March 2018) he says he records the Qur'an in his own voice and publishes it everywhere free of charge. 1

The papers the article relies on report his appearance on the talk show '90 Minutes' in January 2018, and El Watan wrote in 2017 that he was reviving the glory of the 'great five' of Egyptian recitation — the papers' description, not the museum's. 1
