    Summary

Lakhdar Belloumi is an Algerian retired footballer, born in Mascara in 1958, widely considered the greatest Algerian player of all time and credited with inventing the "blind pass". 1 An attacking midfielder, he spent most of his long career with GC Mascara and MC Oran. 1 He scored the winning goal in Algeria's 2–1 victory over West Germany at the 1982 World Cup and played at the 1986 World Cup and the 1980 Olympics. 1 The sources state no religion for him at all, so his data record leaves his faith as unknown. 12

    Club career

Belloumi played for a succession of Mascara clubs — OS Mascara, GC Mascara in several spells — and for MC Oran and MC Alger, with a brief spell at Al-Arabi in Qatar in 1988, scoring more than 200 goals across more than 400 league appearances in a career lasting into the late 1990s. 13

    Algeria

Belloumi was the pivotal player of the Algerian national team throughout the 1980s. 1 At the 1982 World Cup in Spain he scored the winning goal in the famous 2–1 defeat of West Germany in Algeria's World Cup debut, and he also played at the 1986 World Cup and the 1980 Moscow Olympics. 1 European clubs including Barcelona sought him before 1982, but Algerian law at the time did not allow players to move abroad before the age of 28. 1

    Faith in the sources

Neither the English nor the Arabic article makes any statement of Belloumi's religion in its text or categories — the word for Muslim does not occur in the Arabic article — and Wikidata carries no religion value for him. 132 No source read names a school for him, so his record states his faith as unknown. 1
