Jamil ibn Suhayb

Jamil ibn Suhayb, a landed notable (dihqan) of Fallujah. Ubayd ibn Abi al-Makhariq consulted him when he was appointed to an office among those of al-Hajjaj. Al-Mas'udi says that he answered with advice: that he should open his door and not take a chamberlain, that he should sit long with the people of his district, that his judgement should not differ between people, and that he should accept no gift from them. ¹

The report then gives a final piece of advice: to collect money from them firmly, so that they would be pleased with him and al-Hajjaj would have no hold over him. ¹
