By a federal decree issued by President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in January 2023, Staff Lieutenant General Engineer Issa Saif Mohammed Al Mazrouei was appointed Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces at the rank of Minister; his predecessor Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi was moved to Military Affairs Adviser to the President by a companion decree 1. Later official reporting styles him Issa Saif bin Ablan Al Mazrouei; in October 2026 he co-chaired the closing session of the third UAE-Morocco Joint Military Committee in Rabat and received Morocco's Grand Cordon of the Order of Military Merit 1.
