Summary

Abu'l-Hasan Muhammad ibn 'Abdallah ibn Muhammad, known as Ibn Sakra al-Hashimi al-Baghdadi, the famous poet — of the offspring of 'Ali ibn al-Mahdi ibn Abi Ja'far al-Mansur the 'Abbasid caliph; al-Tha'alibi said of him: a poet of wide reach in every kind of invention, excelling in the elegant and the witty; Ibn Sakra's diwan is said to approach fifty thousand verses; at Baghdad it was said that an age that produced the likes of Ibn Sakra and Ibn Hajjaj was most worthless — they were only ill-served by the Hariri and the Farazdaq of their times. ¹
