    Summary

Husein bin Ja'far Al Hadar is an Indonesian preacher and writer, born on 21 June 1988 in Bondowoso, East Java1, of Madurese-Arab, Hadhrami descent1. He studied aqidah and Islamic philosophy, then Qur'anic exegesis, at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta1, and became known as the "millennial habib" through his channel Jeda Nulis and a calm preaching style addressed to young people1.

    Upbringing and education

Al Hadar studied at the YAPI pesantren in Bangil, Pasuruan, a boarding school that teaches the Shia school openly as one of the schools its students study1. He took a bachelor's degree in aqidah and Islamic philosophy at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, then a master's degree in Qur'an and tafsir studies at the same university1.

    Career and writing

Al Hadar began writing for Indonesian media such as Kompas, Tempo and Jawa Pos, then turned to digital preaching, founding the Jeda Nulis ("writing pause") channel on YouTube in 20181. His preaching calls for tolerance and religious moderation and speaks to young people in their own idiom, and he collaborated with the Majelis Lucu Indonesia comedy collective on the "Pemuda Tersesat" ("lost youth") series1. He directs the Jakarta Academy of Islamic Culture and founded the Rumah Cahaya mental-health foundation1.

    Books

His books include Menyegarkan Islam Kita, Anakku Dibunuh Israel, Islam "Mazhab" Fadlullah, Tuhan Ada di Hatimu — his best known — and Seni Merayu Tuhan1.

    Impact and audience

Al Hadar is among Indonesia's most prominent digital preachers: his Jeda Nulis channel had about 1.69 million subscribers in channel data of March 2026, and about 6.5 million Instagram accounts followed him in press figures of 2024–25 — platform figures that change constantly and are not presented by the museum as fixed facts1.
