Summary
Hakan Çalhanoğlu is a professional footballer who was born in Mannheim, Germany, on 8 February 1994.12 A free-kick specialist, he plays as a midfielder for Inter Milan and captains the Turkey national team, for which he has won more than a hundred caps.1 He crossed the Milan divide in 2021, joining Inter from AC Milan, and has won Serie A twice and the Coppa Italia three times with the club.1
Early life
Club career
After helping Karlsruhe to promotion, Çalhanoğlu moved to Hamburger SV in 2013 and was immediately loaned back for a season.1 He joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2014, where his set-piece delivery drew wide notice, and in 2017 he moved to AC Milan, inheriting the number ten shirt and scoring in the Europa League play-offs on his league debut for the club.1 In June 2021 he crossed to city rivals Inter on a free transfer, winning the Coppa Italia three times and Serie A in 2023–24 and again in 2025–26, as the articles record.1
International career
Çalhanoğlu chose to represent Turkey, his parents' country, and played for its youth teams before making his senior debut against the Republic of Ireland in May 2014.1 He represented Turkey at Euro 2016, Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, serving increasingly as the side's captain, and at the articles' last statistical update had won 102 caps and scored 22 goals.1
Positions and criticism
This section presents the positions found in the sources; it is not a verdict by the museum. Neither article attests a school of Islam for Çalhanoğlu: the English article contains no statement of his religion at all — neither "Muslim" nor "Islam" occurs in it — and records only his birth to Turkish parents from Bayburt, which is descent, not attestation.1 The Arabic article's infobox gives his religion as "Islam" in the generic, a value of the kind carried from Wikidata into infoboxes, and its text names no school.2 Under the museum's two-source rule, which requires two independent sources to name a school for the person himself, his school is therefore recorded as unknown.12
