Overview

Bilal ibn Abi Burda, a man of the Umayyad covenant. The sources say that he opened the channel of Ma'qil in the flood of Basra, which had been broken before that. He dug the Canal of Bilal and set shops along its two sides, and moved the market there, and gave this to Yazid ibn Khalid al-Qasri. 1
