Overview
Bajkam the Turk, a Turkish commander. He rose against Ibn Ra'iq in 326 AH, prevailed over him and entered Baghdad. Al-Radi honoured him, titled him "Amir al-Umara'" and appointed him over the amirate of Baghdad and Khurasan. He was killed in the days of al-Muttaqi, and al-Muttaqi took his treasures in Baghdad, which exceeded a million dinars. 1
Al-Mas'udi says that he struck a dinar and a dirham on which his image was, showing him doubtful in his weapons. 2
Ibn al-Athir says that when the Turks killed Mardawij they split into two groups: one group, the majority, went towards the mountains with Bajkam. They then wrote to al-Radi asking to go to Baghdad, and he allowed them. 3
Ibn al-Jawzi says that he settled in Wasit and agreed with al-Radi to pay eight hundred thousand dinars a year to his treasury. He showed justice, built a guesthouse for the weak and the poor in Wasit, and began building a hospital in Baghdad. 4
