Overview
'Awn ibn 'Abdallah ibn 'Utba ibn Mas'ud, the imam, exemplar and ascetic Abu 'Abdallah al-Hudhali of Kufa, brother of Medina's jurist 'Ubaydallah; he narrated from his father, his brother, Ibn al-Musayyab, Ibn 'Abbas, 'Abdallah ibn 'Amr and others, and from 'A'isha and Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him) — though his transmission from those two is held to be mursal — and he likewise reported from his great-uncle 'Abdallah ibn Mas'ud. Ahmad and others declared him trustworthy. 1
