Summary
Asad Ahmad (born 28 November 1969) is a British journalist and news presenter with BBC London. He joined the BBC in 1996 and worked in the Midlands and Scotland before presenting in London, winning the Royal Television Society's London Reporter of the Year award in 2006. 1
Life
Ahmad was born in London to Pakistani parents. The English article gives his birth as 28 November 1969 in its lead but attaches no citation to the date and files him under date of birth missing in its categories, and Wikidata records no date of birth for him, so the date is recorded as debated. 1 2 He was educated at the John Roan School in Blackheath and studied law at the University of Bristol. 1 Before his media career he worked as a foreign-exchange dealer in the City of London and as a researcher in the House of Lords. 1 In 2008 he suffered a motorcycle accident with a serious head and brain injury, and he now often uses a walking stick to help his balance. 1
Work
Ahmad began his media career at the BBC on the News Trainee Scheme in 1996, working at BBC Birmingham as a political reporter and presenter on Midlands Today, and presented editions of Reporting Scotland and bulletins on BBC Breakfast. 1 He was one of the launch presenters of Newsnight Scotland and became the BBC's Scotland correspondent, covering the foot-and-mouth outbreak and riots in the north of England. 1 He moved to London as a reporter for BBC Breakfast, joined its presenting team, and presented the news round-up on Breakfast with Frost and rolling news on BBC News 24. 1 He was the Royal Television Society's London Reporter of the Year in 2006 and has been nominated for a BAFTA for News Programme of the Year. 1 He is an ambassador for the Prince of Wales's Mosaic charity and for the British Asian Trust, and was invited by the United States State Department to take part in its International Visitor Leadership Program in 2006. 1
