    Summary

Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar (born 15 May 1971) is a Pakistani politician from Balochistan who served as the eighth caretaker prime minister of Pakistan, from 14 August 2023 to 4 March 2024 — the longest tenure of any caretaker premier. He has sat in the Senate of Pakistan for Balochistan since 2018, with a break for the caretaker premiership. 1 2

    Early life and education

Kakar was born at Muslim Bagh, in the Qilla Saifullah district of Balochistan, into the Kakar Pashtun tribe, and began his working life as a teacher. He took a master's degree in political science and sociology from the University of Balochistan, and attempted a law degree at Birkbeck, University of London, which he did not complete; he returned to Pakistan in 2005. The Urdu article adds his schooling at St Francis school in Quetta and at Cadet College Kohat. 1 2

    Political career

He served as spokesperson of the Government of Balochistan from 2015 to 2017. In 2016 he founded the NGO Voice of Balochistan, and in 2018 he co-founded the Balochistan Awami Party and entered the Senate. In August 2023 he resigned from both the Senate and the party, for the neutrality of the caretaker office, and was sworn in as caretaker prime minister on 14 August 2023. He handed over to Shehbaz Sharif on 4 March 2024 and returned to the Senate in April 2024. 1 3

    The caretaker government

His caretaker government drew criticism, which the article records as controversy rather than as findings against him personally: the general election due under its watch was postponed, and the 2024 wheat-import affair was said to have caused losses alleged at more than Rs 300 billion. 1

    Faith record

None of the three articles read for this record — English, Arabic or Urdu — names a religion for Kakar, in text or infobox. Under the museum's rule that a school is recorded only when two independent sources name it, and that tribal descent never attests, his faith is recorded as unknown. 1 3 2
