عمرو بن جرموز التميمي

al-Zubayr's killer at Wadi'l-Siba' — 'lead me or I'll lead you' in prayer, then struck mid-salah; he brought the head and sword to Ali expecting favour and heard instead 'tell Ibn Safiyya's killer of the Fire' — and penned his own regret: 'I came with al-Zubayr's head hoping nearness, and was given the Fire for a greeting' 1.

Overview

Amr ibn Jurmuz al-Tamimi, the man who killed al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (may God be pleased with him) at Wadi al-Siba'. 2

The report

Al-Mas'udi relates that al-Zubayr went down to pray, and Amr said to him: "Will you grant me safety or shall I grant you?" Al-Zubayr granted him safety, and he killed him in the prayer. Then he came to Ali with his sword, his ring and his head. 2

Al-Mas'udi says that Ali said something about the sword and then said: "The killer of the son of Safiyya is in the fire." He also says that Amr said verses to himself, regretting what he had done. All of this is according to al-Mas'udi's report. 2
