Overview
Amir al-Sha'bi was sent as an envoy by the caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan to the king of the Byzantines. 1
The report
The book relates that the king of the Byzantines took the caliph's sending of an envoy without a guard as a sign of intent to betray him, and that al-Sha'bi replied in a way that saved him. 1
The author of the book comments that the intentions of the Byzantines towards the Muslims were not sound even in the time of truce and correspondence; this is the author's comment. 1
