Overview
Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bassam, a satirical poet. Al-Mas'udi says that no one escaped his tongue, not even his father Muhammad ibn Nasr. 2
His satires
He satirised his father, and the viziers Ubayd Allah ibn Sulayman, al-Qasim ibn Ubayd Allah, Sa'id ibn Makhlad, Ali ibn al-Furat, al-Abbas ibn al-Hasan and Isma'il ibn Bulbul. 2
His story with al-Mu'tadid
Al-Mu'tadid recited his verse while playing chess. When he raised his head and saw al-Qasim, he was ashamed and said: "O Qasim, cut the tongue of Ibn Bassam away from you." Al-Qasim went out hastening, but the caliph reassured him by saying: "Gently, and do not go against him with harm." Al-Qasim then gave him the post and the bridge over the troops of Qinnasrin and al-'Awasim. 2
