Overview

Ali ibn Abd Allah ibn Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib, counted as the grandfather of the Abbasid caliphs. Al-Mas'udi relates in "Muruj al-Dhahab" that his maternal uncles from Kinda prevented him on the day of al-Harra from giving the allegiance to the army of Yazid under Musrif, and that people of Rabi'a prevented him likewise, and he mentioned that in verses he composed. 2

His dates of birth and death need an additional source.
