Summary

Abu Bakr Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. 'Abdallah b. Mudhhij al-Zubaydi of Seville, resident at Cordoba; the unique man of his age in grammar and the preservation of lugha, and the most knowing of his contemporaries in i'rab, meanings and rarities, beside poetry and akhbar — al-Andalus had none like him in his art. His works include the epitome of Kitab al-'Ayn, the Tabaqat of Eastern and Andalusi grammarians, and Hatk sutur al-mulhidin against Ibn Masarra. 1

His standing

The caliph al-Mustansir chose him to tutor his son and heir Hisham al-Mu'ayyad, and he held the judgeship of Seville and the shurta office; he took adab and lugha from Abu 'Ali al-Qali. 1
