Overview

Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn al-Sari al-Zajjaj, a grammarian. Al-Mu'tadid ordered him to interpret "Jami' al-Nutq", and he did it without a copy, borrowing books of language from Tha'lab and al-Sukkari. 2

Al-Mu'tadid liked his work and ordered three hundred dinars given to him. He acquired a great standing, and a stipend was set for him among the boon companions, jurists and scholars. 2

He died on Friday, eleven nights before the end of Jumada al-Akhira 310 AH, according to Ibn al-Nadim. 2
