Overview

Al-Qasim ibn Ubayd Allah, vizier of the caliph al-Mukafi. Al-Mas'udi describes him as very awesome and bold in attack, and says people were in fear of him, great and small. 1

His reports in al-Mas'udi

Al-Mas'udi attributes to him the killing of Abd al-Wahid ibn al-Muwaffaq, the uncle of al-Mukafi, and the destruction of the poet Ali ibn al-Abbas ibn Jurayj al-Rumi by poison in a pastry "as it was said". 1

He died on the evening of Wednesday, ten nights into Rabi al-Akhir 291 AH, at about thirty years of age. Al-Mas'udi says that people drank in joy at his death. Then al-Mukafi wanted to dig up his grave and beat and burn him, when it became clear to him that he had killed Abd al-Wahid. 1

In the Fihrist

Ibn al-Nadim says that Ishaq ibn Hunayn was devoted to him and specially favoured by him, and confided his secrets to him. 2
