Overview

Al-Qasim ibn Harun al-Rashid, the third of his sons whom he appointed heirs. 1

The heirship

Al-Rashid gave him the allegiance as heir after al-Ma'mun in 187 AH. If the caliphate came to al-Ma'mun, the affair of al-Qasim would be for him, to confirm it or depose him. Al-Ma'mun deposed him from the heirship in 198 AH. 1 2

The frontiers

Al-Baladhuri says he was staying at Dabiq when the Byzantines raided Ayn Zarba and drove off the flocks of its people and took some men captive. The people of al-Massisa and its volunteers rose to them and recovered what they had taken. Al-Qasim then sent from the city and repaired its defences and increased its garrison. 3
