Overview
Al-Nazzam, Ibrahim ibn Sayyar ibn Hani, kunya Abu Ishaq. A Mu'tazili theologian of the Basran masters, who was a theologian, poet and man of letters. 2
In Murij al-Dhahab
Al-Mas'udi relates that he said in the session of Yahya that love is more subtle than a mirage and finer than wine. The text says that if it is excessive it returns as a deadly madness. 1
His relation with Abu Nuwas
Ibn al-Nadim says that he used to rebuke Abu Nuwas, and he has several fragments about him. He says that Abu Nuwas alluded to him in a verse about one who claims philosophy. The reason was that al-Nazzam used to call Abu Nuwas to say the doctrine of threat, and he refused. 2
