Overview

Al-Mu'tadid billah, Abu al-Fath Abu Bakr ibn al-Mustakfi, an Abbasid caliph in Cairo who ruled between 753 and 763 AH. 1

His life

He was given the allegiance after the death of his brother al-Hakim in 753 AH, by an appointment from him. Al-Suyuti describes him as good, humble and fond of people of learning. He died in Jumada al-Ula 763 AH. 1

In his days

Al-Suyuti says that the sultan al-Mansur Abu Bakr was deposed in his days for his corruption, and was exiled to Qus and killed there. Al-Suyuti sees this as a requital for what the sultan's father had done to the caliph. 1
