Overview

Ahmad al-Muqtadir ibn Sulayman ibn Hud, lord of Zaragoza. He became known in al-Maqqari's "Nafh al-Tib" for recovering the city of Barbastro in 457 AH. 2

Barbastro

Al-Maqqari relates that his brother Yusuf had been negligent in protecting Barbastro, so the army of the Ardamanis took it in 456 AH and inflicted punishment on its people. Al-Muqtadir prepared to march on it with a host of Muslims, with reinforcements from his ally Abbad. 2

In Jumada al-Ula 457 AH the fighting took place, and about a thousand horsemen and five thousand foot-soldiers of the enemy were killed, and about fifty of the Muslims were wounded. The phrase "the Muslims washed it of the filth of idolatry" is the wording of Ibn Hayyan, as al-Maqqari relates it. 3
