Overview

Al-Muhsin ibn Ali ibn al-Furat, son of the vizier Ibn al-Furat. He was killed with his father in 312 AH at the age of thirty-three. 2

Hiding and the ordeal

Ibn al-Athir relates that he hid with his paternal aunt, who took him every day to the graveyard in the dress of a woman. A black slave-girl then saw him in the house of a righteous woman and told her mistress, who informed Nasr the chamberlain. Nazuk, the chief of police, ordered him brought, and he was tortured to make him accept the confiscation. Ibn al-Athir relates that he did not give them a single dinar, and said he would not gather them against himself and his property. He was then slaughtered as sheep are slaughtered. 2

The report of Ibn al-Jawzi

Ibn al-Jawzi says that when his father became vizier in 304 AH he seized Ali ibn Isa, dressed him in a woollen robe, humiliated and tormented him until he extracted a small amount from him. 3
