Overview
Abu 'Ali Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. al-Muzaffar, katib, philologist of Baghdad, known as al-Hatimi; one of the deep-versed, widely-reading savants — he took adab from Abu 'Umar al-Zahid, mawla of Tha'lab, transmitted akhbar from him and dictated them in the adab circles; a company took from him including the qadi Abu'l-Qasim al-Tanukhi. 1
The Hatimiyya
His is the Risala al-Hatimiyya recounting what passed between him and Abu'l-Tayyib al-Mutanabbi — exposing al-Mutanabbi's plagiarisms and showing the faults of his verse — and it proved the abundance of his material and the breadth of his reading. 1
