Overview

Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Ziyad al-Farra al-Kufi, the imam of the grammarians of Kufa. 2

In the Fihrist

Ibn al-Nadim relates from Tha'lab that no one worked before him in the way he did. 2

He dictated "al-Hudud" over seventeen years, and no book was seen in his hand except once. The reason for the dictation was that a group of al-Kisa'i's companions asked him to dictate. 2

He used to sit for people in his mosque next to his house, and he died on the road to Mecca in 207 AH. 2

Among his books are "Ma'ani al-Qur'an" in four volumes, which he dictated without a copy, "al-Bahi" which he wrote for Abd Allah ibn Tahir, "al-Lughat", and "al-Fakhir". 2
